Last Sunday, January 12, we rode an beautiful route from Rincón de la Victoria to La Herradura, covering approximately 52 km (104 km in total) along the picturesque Andalusian coast.
We set off early from Villa Antiopa in Rincón de la Victoria, at 9am. The ride took us along the coastal road, a popular route with local cyclists that offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Malaga coastline, with little climbing. The route takes you through Torre del Mar, where in the past other companions have joined on the way, Torrox, Nerja and finally arriving at La Herradura. The route takes us past Torre del Mar, where in the past other companions have joined on the way, Torrox, Nerja and finally La Herradura. As we pass Maro, the landscape begins to change; in the last 13 km there are a few slopes but they permit us to have impressive views, with cliffs and beaches with crystal clear waters that we will never be bored with.
If you take this route, look out for the mountain goats, as they are common in this area. We arrived in La Herradura with its beautiful bay and relaxed atmosphere, where we stopped for breakfast at Coche Coche, a cozy café on the bay focused towards cyclists, where we all enjoyed a toast and a coffee (be careful not to order a "mitad" and a "pitufo" as we are no longer in Malaga).
After breakfast we returned all the way arriving at Rincón for lunch. A great way to enjoy a Sunday morning in company.
Recommendations for Cyclists who want to try the route
Difficulty Level: The route is moderate, suitable for cyclists with average experience in routes of similar distance.
Road Conditions: The entire route is on the coastal road, which is in good condition and has recently been tarmaced in parts. We recommend being careful when passing through the towns, as there are more cars, but on the majority of the route you will not encounter large numbers of vehicles, especially afeter leaving Nerja.
Recommended Stops: In addition to our breakfast stop, towns such as Torre del Mar and Nerja offer excellent opportunities to rest and enjoy the views.
Highlights: Don't forget to take your camera; the views of the sea and the cliffs are simply stunning, especially at sunrise.
Essentials: A puncture repair kit, water, food and lights; without these four items it is difficult to complete the route. Eating and staying hydrated is very important, but more important is road safety with the lights required by law.
The route from Rincón de la Victoria to La Herradura is an enriching experience that combines exercise, nature and culture. The breakfast stop adds a special touch. We recommend this tour to all cycling enthusiasts who wish to explore the eastern coast of Malaga and the beauty of its landscapes.
